Theaters seem to be not a potential option anymore amid the coronavirus hit the globe, as Disney decides to go straight to Disney+ to release movies like Mulan. These three movies are likely possible candidates for another shot on the TV screen.

The New Mutants

The New Mutants, produced by Fox before Disney, was originally scheduled to open in April 2018. As many other movies were forced to delay, the movie is currently scheduled to open theatrically near the end of August after several times of postponing.

However, fans are calling on Disney to simply release it on VOD, Hulu, or Disney+ instead amid the uncontrollable situation of the pandemic.

But things are not that simple, as Boone explained to Collider in an interview in July, "With most movies, you sign contracts that guarantee a theatrical release, so it needs to open to ever go digital in the first place."

Black Widow

After the COVID-19 pandemic reached the climax point of the pandemic back in March, the film was delayed from its planned release date at the start of May and is now set to arrive six months later, in November.

MCU fans have been always aware of the situations and insisted on calling Disney to release the movie on Disney+ instead of the big screen. However, the Black Widow budget cost too much ($150-200 million) for Disney to drop it on the streaming platform without recouping its expenditures.

As being part of the massive Marvel universe with a high reputation, Black Widow believed to easily gross over $1 billion in theaters worldwide if the movie is taken to the box office. Of course, after the pandemic was under control.

Soul

Soul was originally to open in June but has since pushed back to November as part of Disney's post-coronavirus air schedule changes.

So, will it be possible for Soul to be on the platform instead of the planned airing platform? While Raya and the Last Dragon - the upcoming animation project of Disney to not arrive till 2021, the studio seems to prefer keeping Soul exactly on their streaming release.

In conclusion, the whole situation of this COVID-19 crisis has still been complicated which could lead to many changes in the future. Let's just patiently wait for the animation company to give out official announcement.
