Miley Cyrus' boyfriend Cody Simpson gave a candid interview to the Sydney Morning Herald about his stance on relationships. He spoke about how dating Cyrus has changed him—then touched on a topic he hasn't really spoken about in years: how his relationship with Gigi Hadid shaped the way he looks at love.
'She is creative and inspiring, fiercely independent and encourages me to be my own person, too,' the 23-year-old explained.

'We are both creative individuals who support one another with our work,' he went on, also calling life with the Malibu songstress 'wonderful.'
He also talked about ex Gigi Hadid, saying: 'I dated [her] for two years and have always enjoyed being with independent women who are strong individuals.'
Cody thinks independence is one of the keys to a successful relationship.
'In order to have a successful relationship, you have to know how to be your own person,' Simpson said. 'You don’t want to be half a person trying to find another half to complement you.'
He thinks it was his mother Angie Simpson and grandmother Gail who instilled these values in him.
'I owe a lot of my humility to these women,' he said. 'My ability to make good decisions comes from the way I was raised. I don’t want to disappoint Mum or my grandmothers. They’ve shown me that being close to your mum and grandmothers makes you a better human.'
The singer also shared his thoughts on marriage, commitment, and where his head was at with Miley after six months of dating.
'I believe in marriage, but haven't thought too much about that,' he said, keeping his cards close to his chest.

He went on to say he was far too young to think about it seriously.
'I am far too young to consider it, to be honest. I just continue to surround myself with positive women who inspire me and teach me new things every day.'
It comes after the pair sparked engagement rumours in October last year, after Miley debuted a custom-made ring with the initials, 'C.S.' on it,
The ring's designers, Cort Jewellery, revealed on Instagram that the accessory had originally belonged to Cody, which means he had given it to Miley as a gift.
'When you wake up and freak out to see @mileycyrus wearing the custom ring you made @codysimpson,' read the post.
The fact Cody has already given his girlfriend a ring so early on in their relationship was taken as a sign a proposal might not be too far off.
Miley and Cody's romance has been making headlines since they were spotted kissing in Los Angeles in early October, just two months after she split from her husband, Liam Hemsworth.
Since then it has been full steam ahead for the lovebirds, who have reportedly already moved in together.
The pair have been inseparable ever since, with them even isolating together amid the coronavirus crisis gripping the world.
