Lee Gikwang from boy group Highlight (formerly BEAST) has been discharged from the military after completing his mandatory service.

"Lee Gikwang, who joined the military in April last year, finished his mandatory police service today and was discharged from the military," his agency Around Us announced on November 18.

Lee Gikwang said through his agency, "I am happy to finish my mandatory military service safely on November 17, 2020. In fact, it once felt very far away, but it's amazing that the time has already been filled. More than anything else, I'm most excited and happy to be able to stand in front of fans and spend the rest of my time together with them."

"First of all, I'd like to thank all of our fellows for helping and supporting me during my service, the company, the platoon leader and the vice general, as well as many others for your help. And most of all, I sincerely thank the fans who waited for this day with me during my military service, and our members who are always with me. I will try harder to meet my fans only with good looks from now on."

"Lee Gikwang will leave the military without returning to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during his last vacation," an agency official explained. "It is regrettable that he could not meet his fans in person, but he will approach his fans through various activities in the future."

Lee Gikwang is the third member of Highlight to be discharged from the military, after Yoon Doo Joon and Yang Yo Seop. The singer plans to share his plans for future activities and his brief thoughts on the Around Us's official Naver V LIVE channel at 8 PM KST on November 19. He will also be hosting the new program 'Idol Wonderland', which is broadcast every Wednesday on the KT Seezn app after the first episode airing 9 PM KST on November 18.
