Releasing in 2018 with the casting team including Jason MomoaAmber HeardNicole Kidman and Willem Dafoe, Aquaman by James Wan was a big success in the box office and marked its name in DC fans’ hearts. However, seems like Aquaman 2 won’t be that delightful and bright atmosphere as expected.

The project of making a sequel for Aquaman was Warner Bros. ready to shoot in early 2019 and the film is scheduled to release on December 16, 2022 – four years after the first season. This film will feature the return of the former cast with director James Wan and screenwriter David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick.

Dubbed as the “king of horror movies” with famous works that made the audience cry out of the theater like Saw, Insidious, The Conjuring, The Nun and Annabelle, it’s easy to understand when James Wan doesn’t want Aquaman 2 to be portrayed in a playful, vibrant style.

In DC FanDome’s latest interview, director Wan confirmed that Aquaman 2 will have some horror details.

Even though Aquaman is not a too dark film for the audience to pissed off, there is a scene that takes viewers’ eyes off when Trench monsters attack Mera and Aquaman on board. The scene impresses with the formidable trench of Trench, a style of horror film that seems to be out of favor in this era.

Of course, Aquaman 2 won’t be a horror movie overall. But if you are an enthusiast of this thriller, director James Wan will surely make you satisfied with some scenes exploring the “underwater world” boldly colored.
