Kelly Clarkson brought the Americana to NASA's slated event with SpaceX Wednesday. "I'm over the moon about being asked to participate in #LaunchAmerica … get it? I love space jokes." said the 38-year-old songstress.
The A Moment Like This singer delivered her rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner' before what was to be the Cape Canaveral, Florida launch of Elon Musk's Crew Dragon carrying NASA astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley toward the International Space Station.
The first-ever champion of American Idol continued: "The Demo-2 launch is happening now and NASA is live-tweeting it!! Safe travels to everyone on board!" The event, which took place under the banner of NASA's Commercial Crew Program, was nixed due to weather concerns, and rescheduled for Saturday.
"This mission will validate the company's crew transportation system, including the launch pad, rocket, spacecraft, and operational capabilities," NASA said of the task.
It added: "This also will be the first time NASA astronauts will test the spacecraft systems in orbit."
The event featuring the Since U Been Gone songstress would have been the first space mission with a crew to launch from the U.S. in nine years.
Clarkson and her family have been social distancing from their ranch in Montana in the two-plus months since the coronavirus pandemic led officials to lock down the country in an effort to quell its spread.
She and husband, Brandon Blackstock, 43, are parents to daughter River Rose, five, and Remington Alexander, four; and he's father to son Seth, 13, and Savannah, 18, from a previous relationship.
