YG’s big rookie boygroup, TREASURE, has proved their global popularity as their debut song ‘BOY’ topped major overseas music charts, and now the MV has already surpassed 10 million views on YouTube.


TREASURE’s debut song ‘BOY’ has been on a steady rise, surpassing 10 million views around 8 PM KST on August 8, just 26 hours after its release. The number of subscribers to TREASURE’s official YouTube channel also exploded in just two days after their debut, surpassing 1.67 million, proving the global interest in them.

TREASURE is the first big rookie group to be released by YG in four years since BLACKPINK. The 12 members Choi Hyunsuk, Jihoon, Yoshi, Junkyu, Mashiho, Jaekyuk, Asahi, Bang Yedam, Doyoung, Haruto, Jeoungwoo, and So Junghwan made their debut in the K-Pop scene with their first single album ‘THE FIRST STEP: CHAPTER ONE’ on August 7.

Since the group aimed at the global markets from the start, overseas charts showed an immediate response. The debut song ‘BOY’ topped the iTunes Top Song Chart in a total of 19 countries, including Hong Kong, Singapore, Mexico and Saudi Arabia.

It also topped Japan’s largest music site Line Music Top 100 chart, and rose to No. 1 on the Rakuten Music’s real-time overall ranking and AWA’s soaring chart. Japan’s top six sports magazines and terrestrial broadcasters highlighted the records the boys set on their debut using headlines such as ‘Treasure’s World Stage Debut’.


Chinese media also took great interest in the group, with articles saying “TREASURE is the birth of YG’s super monster rookie following BLACKPINK” and “TREASURE’s debut performance is excellent. We are looking forward to their activities,” expressing expectation for the boys’ global activities. China is actually the country with the highest pre-orders for TREASURE’s debut album.

‘BOY’ is an impressive song with intense beats and addictive dance break drops. Contrary to the dynamic changing track, it contains a pure and passionate love story of a boy who runs without hesitation towards his first love.
