Ellie Goulding has confessed she was 'wooed' by her husband Caspar Jopling and the pair had 'nothing in common' when they first met. The singer spoke out on her chequered love life during her appearance on fellow chart star Jessie Ware's Table Manners podcast.
Speaking about their first meeting in 2016, Ellie Goulding admitted "it wasn't love at first sight" as the couple struggled to find any common ground. Ellie, 33, revealed she met art dealer Caspar, 28, at a dinner thrown for her by a friend following her Jingle Bell Ball performance in late 2016.
There are long-standing rumours that it was the couple's mutual friend Princess Eugenie who set them up. Ellie explained that she wasn't feeling well and wasn't even keen on going to the dinner where she would meet her future husband.
Ellie admitted though that despite less than romantic first impressions ''he wooed me basically. We ended up just going on dates. He works in art so he took me to art galleries and stuff, and now we're married."
The couple got engaged in 2017 after Caspar proposed while the couple were doing a puzzle at home, before they married in a lavish ceremony at York Minster in August 2019.
During the podcast chat, Ellie also admitted that it took her awhile to find true love. The star had a series of high profile romances before meeting Caspar, dating Niall Horan, Radio 1 DJ Greg James, actor Jeremy Irvine, DJ Skrillex and McFly bassist Dougie Poynter.
There were also rumoured relationships with Ed Sheeran and even Prince Harry. Ellie was open about her chequered past, admitting "I kissed quite a few frogs [before I met Caspar]."
"But I realised through all this - not to go super deep - that actually, I was perhaps not quite myself - which makes sense with everything going on and whatever's happened over the past 10 years. So, therefore I perhaps had some relationships that were not what I thought they were. But when I met Caspar I just knew."
