"Superman" Henry Cavill's Enola Holmes and child star Millie Bobby Brown were widely appreciated by critics.
On September 23, Netflix will release a brand new work called Enola Holmes about the journey to find the mother of the famous detective teenage sister Sherlock Holmes. Recently, the film site Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a "fresh" rate of up to 89% out of 16 critics, most of which said the work of director Harry Bradbeer was good and worth watching.
Specifically, John DeFore reporter of The Hollywood Reporter commented: "The work has succeeded in building the world around the Holmes heroine, and will convince young audiences that Enola cannot be tied down within any boundaries ".
From Caution Spoilers, writer Sarah Cartland dedicated praise to the heroine Millie Bobby Brown: "A vibrant, bright film, with Millie Bobby Brown's energetic and passionate performance". Variety's Peter Debruge also reinforced this statement with a comparison: "The way Millie portrayed the character reminds me of Keira Knightley's spontaneous performance in Sense and Sensibility, when she completely broke the stereotype of the character in the original ".
Meanwhile, jokingly, Times critic Ed Potton said: "Whew! How it felt after watching Millie Bobby Brown play Sherlock Holmes' teenage sister in Nancy Springer's hilarious adaptation is extremely relieved."
Commenting on the work in general, author Rachel Wagner wrote: "The film is an entertaining journey with a heroic image that everyone needs right now. She's brave, she's funny and a little more muddy. " Along with that, IndieWire reporter Kate Erbland firmly stated: "The film Enola Holmes proves itself to attract a lot of different audiences".
However, there were still a small number of critics who directed negative pens at Enola Holmes. Tom Beasley of Flickering Myth said: "Despite the entertainment Millie Bobby Brown offers, or the charm of Henry Cavill, Enola Holmes is still an uncomfortably cliché".
Meanwhile, writer Ella Kemp of Empire magazine thinks the movie should be fun, not too funny. Because of the jokes, the pieces of humor will become less subtle, they "continuously bounce on the viewers' heads like a ton of bricks".
Enola Holmes tells about the heroine Enola (Millie Bobby Brown) met an incident on her 16th birthday. Her mother suddenly disappeared without leaving a message. With her teen's curiosity, plus her passion for discovery and her love for her mother, she determined to set out to find the truth alone. However, it is not that easy, when her two brothers Mycroft (Sam Claflin) and Sherlock (Henry Cavill) suddenly return to house Enola. Not only the audience but also the fastidious critics are also very curious about what she has to face, when she has to hide from two genius brothers and run after her "hidden" mother.
Enola Holmes will be officially launched on September 23.
