The year 2021 has begun on an interesting note for the Blinks, the fans of the South-Korean band, BLACKPINK. The girl group comprising of four members- Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé- recently collaborated with the pop sensation Selena Gomez for the song “Ice-cream”. BLACKPINK 2021 calendar looks busy with collaborations, a new corporate partnerships, solo debuts, and more.

In October, the Kpop superstars dropped their latest album titled “The Album”. Even the pandemic hasn’t stopped them from providing content to their fans. A documentary based on the life of the group was released on Netflix, titled “BLACKPINK: Light Up The Sky”. The quartet has ventured upon various new journeys, giving their fans something more to focus upon. So, Blinks do you want to know what your idols are up to these days? Here are a few updates about them:

BLACKPINK’s Virtual Concert

Among the various firsts for the BLACKPINK, their first online concert is also the one. Due to the pandemic celebrities have turned to digital platforms to reach their fans. On 31 Jan, the band hit the stage for their concert, BLACKPINK: The show. The live virtual concert was aired on their official YouTube channel. The fans were updated about it through a tweet shared with their official handle.

Jennie’s YouTube Debut

The K-pop idol gave a surprise to her fans on turning 25. Jennie launched her own YouTube channel, named Jennierubyjane. She greeted the world with a cover of Mandy Moore’s “When Will My Life Begin”. The singer gave us a sneak-peek into her life in the video montage titled ‘Hello world. From Jennie’. Also, the Blinks didn’t hold back from showering love on the idol. Her first video has reached 15 million views so far. Now, we can just wait to see what Jennie has in store for her followers.

Lisa And Rosé Are Going Solo

After Jennie’s super hit single, “Solo”, her group members Lisa and Rosé are next in line. Both the BLACKPINK singers would make their solo debut in 2021 as announced by YG Entertainment. The announcement was made on 30 Dec, wherein they confirmed that the singers are engaged in shooting for their single projects. However, the fans of the group have to wait till later this year for the songs.

Jisoo’s New K-drama

In the list of binge-worthy K-dramas that would drop this year is the Kim Jisoo starrer “Snowdrop” too. The show has been gaining popularity even before the release after the K-pop singer was roped in. Snowdrop is set in the backdrop of Seoul, in 1987, amid the nationwide democracy movement. The love story of Im Soo-ho (Jung Hae-in) and Eun Young-Cho (Jisoo) begins when the former hides in a women’s dormitory to escape the protest. Prior to this, Jisoo landed a cameo role in Netflix’s “Arthdal Chronicles”. Besides the BLACKPINK singer, this Kdrama also stars Jung Hae-in, Kim Hye-Yoon, Yoo In-Na, and Jang Seung-Jo.

Pepsi x BLACKPINK

The four k-pop idols are now the face of the beverage brand, Pepsi. BLACKPINK has been chosen as the brand ambassador for the Asia-Pacific region. They are part of Pepsi’s latest campaign “Go all in for what you love”. As part of the marketing campaign, limited edition products featuring the Korean girl band will be available in various outlets in Singapore and Malaysia.

BLACKPINK Tops MelOn Daily Chart + Sets New Record with 'THE SHOW' Concert

On Monday, members Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo and Rosé made another feat after "Lovesick Girls" became the longest-running track popularized by a third-generation female K-Pop group on MelOn Top 10 Daily Chart.

"Lovesick Girls" now holds another record being the track sang by a third-generation female K-pop group in the MelOn Top 10 Daily Chart. The said track has been dominating the music chart in the last four months.

At the moment, "Lovesick Girls" is currently in rank 7. Other songs that made it to the MelOn Top 10 Daily Chart include "Celebrity" by IU, "Stars In The Sky" by Scripture, "VVS" by Erosion, "Dynamite" by BTS, and "Rent This Night and Tell Me" by 10CM. Jang Beom Jun's "I Can't Sleep," "Borrow Your Drunkenness" by Mountains, "It's Not Love That's Hard" by Lim Chang Jung, and "eight" by IU and BTS member Suga are also part of the list.

The major music website also ranked BLACKPINK as the most popular and most searched female K-pop group. Following Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo, and Rosé's group are (G)I-DLE, Davichi, TWICE, IZ*ONE, Oh My Girl, MAMAMOO, Red Velvet, Girls' Generation, and 2NE1.

Last week, "Lovesick Girls" also surpassed 30 million streams on Genie. It is the second song of BLACKPINK from "THE ALBUM" to ever make such a record. Other popular tracks being widely streamed in the platform include "Pretty Savage," Bet You Wanna," and "How You Like That," among others.

BLACKPINK Attracted Biggest Audience for a Livestream Concert

Meanwhile, YG Entertainment revealed that BLACKPINK was able to garner more than 280,000 viewers during their recently-concluded "THE SHOW" virtual concert. Though the talent agency was happy with the turnout, it did not want the numbers to be highlighted as the quartet has been very careful so it would not affect the real value of the concert.

However, due to BLINKs' insistent demand, YG Entertainment decided to share the results. It also divulged that the official YouTube channel of BLACKPINK gained more than 2.7 million subscribers after "THE SHOW" was first announced, which proves that BLACKPINK one of the biggest stars today.

If that is not enough, the hashtag #THESHOWToday became the number one trending topic on Twitter on the day of the concert. The names of all BLACKPINK members even appeared on the social media sites' Top 10 trending topics at the time.

Among the highlights of "THE SHOW" virtual concert is the unveiling of Rosé's first solo track called "Gone." BLACKPINK members opened the show by singing their chart-topping song called "Kill This Love" and performed "Crazy Over You," which is a song that is part of "THE ALBUM." They also sang their other hit singles such as "How You Like That," "Playing With Fire" "Sour Candy," "Lovesick Girls," and "Don't Know What To Do," and more.
