Actor Park Seo Joon and announcer-turned-broadcaster Park Sun Young have been appointed ambassadors for the '2020 Population, Housing, Agriculture and Fishery Census'.
The National Statistical Office presented the letters of appointment to Park Seo Joon and Park Sun Young at a ceremony on July 8 at the SKY31 Convention Auditorium in Jamsil, Songpa District, Seoul.
The appointment ceremony was held in a non-face-to-face manner, with only a small number of officials attending in order to prevent COVID-19.
"Park Seo Joon, who has consistently built a reliable image along with his excellent acting skills in dramas, movies and entertainment shows, and Park Sun Young, who has shown stable and accurate progress as a news anchor, have been appointed ambassadors in line with the national statistical philosophy, where trust and accuracy are vital," the National Statistical Office said.
Park Seo Joon, who received the letter of appointment, shared, "I am pleased to be appointed as a goodwill ambassador for a large-scale census conducted every five years, and I will do my best in public relations activities to achieve 100 percent participation in the survey."
Park Sun Young said, "I feel a greater responsibility to be the second ambassador of the National Statistical Office's census since 2016," and added, "For tomorrow's change, we will actively promote our national representatives to talk about many things."
In addition, their short-term view was conducted by broadcaster Kim Tae Jin at the appointment ceremony. As for the reason for his acceptance of the ambassador, Park Seo Joon said, "I thought it was important to inform the public about the census on population, housing, agriculture and fishery at an official meeting," adding, "The census, which is conducted once every five years, is the basis for the preparation of South Korea's policies. I think it is 'my job' and it will be important to participate in the census because we can make various policies such as welfare, transportation and education suitable for the future through this data."
Park Sun Young also replied, "I think we should know the present well to come up with future policies. There are probably people who think it's a bit unfamiliar, so I think we have a lot of roles to play. I will do my best."
The two ambassadors will participate in various online and offline promotional activities, including promotional video models for the '2020 Population, Housing, Agriculture and Fishery Census', and deliver messages encouraging people to participate in the survey.
