Ahn Hyo Seop, Kim Yoo Jung Confirmed As Lead Roles In SBS' New Drama 'Hong Chun Gi'
On Wednesday, both Ahn Hyo Seop and Kim Yoo Jung's agencies announced their casting in 'Hong Chun Gi'.
Ahn Hyo Seop's agency Star House Entertainment said, "Ahn Hyo Seop has confirmed his appearance as Haram, the main character of the drama 'Hong Chun Gi'."
On the same day, Awesome ENT, Kim Yoo Jung's agency, also reported the news, saying, "Kim Yoo Jung plays Hong Chun Gi, a painter who became the first female painter in Joseon."
'Hong Chun Gi' is a fantasy romance historical drama about the fateful love of Hong Chun Gi, the only female painter of the Joseon Dynasty, and Haram, who can read the stars. It is a drama based on the best-seller book of the same name by Jung Eun Gum, also the original author of 'Sungkyunkwan Scandal' and 'Moon Embracing the Sun'. It will be directed by Jang Tae Yu, who has promoted Korean content to the world with numerous masterpieces such as 'My Love from the Star', 'Deep Rooted Tree', 'Painter of the Wind' and 'Hyena', and written by Ha Eun.
Ahn Hyo Seop plays Haram, a man who lost his sight in the drama but can read the sky and constellations. Ahn Hyo Seop, who received numerous love calls after captivating viewers with his own colors through 'Dr. Romantic 2' earlier this year, has been waiting for the full-fledged production of 'Hong Chun Gi', drawing keen attention to the new character.
Kim Yoo Jung, who is loved in South Korea and abroad for her strong performances in historical dramas such as 'Love in the Moonlight' and 'Moon Embracing the Sun', will reunite with director Jang Tae Yu after 13 years. The two worked together in the 2008 drama 'Painter of the Wind'.
Kim Yoo Jung will play the role of Hong Chun Gi, a character born blind but miraculously gets her eyes healed and lives as a painter. Expectations are rising for 'Hong Chun Gi', a new release by Kim Yoo Jung, who received favorable reviews from viewers for expressing not only cheerful action scenes but also the lovely character and inner pain of the role she played in 'Backstreet Rookie', which ended in August.
Filming of 'Hong Chun Gi' is already underway. On December 10, SBS held a showcase to introduce a new program to air in 2021, where the making film of 'Hong Chun Gi' was released. The chemistry between Ahn Hyo Seop, who turned into Haram, the best-looking man in Gyeongbokgung Palace, and Kim Yoo Jung, who played Hong Chun Gi, the best female painter in the era, has raised expectations for the drama.
'Hong Chun Gi' is scheduled to air in the first half of next year.
