Chungha always looks busy. You like a person who lives on a minute basis. Why are you working so hard?
I don't think I live hard. It's important to live happily. The word 'work hard' has pressure. I try not to feel the pressure so as not to lose my fun.
Since his solo debut in 2017, you have released an album every six months or two months. There was a mini album and a single. Considering the album activity and preparation period, you had no rest for three years.
Recording, producing, and releasing an album are the process of making an album. But I've never been tired of the album. There were some songs that I didn't want to sing. But fans enjoyed it. I think it was also an interesting episode when I think about it. Looking back on our past activities, it was quite a schedule. I've been tired from lack of stamina, but I've never really been tired of an album.
There are a lot of people who go through burnouts. The fact that you were able to concentrate even though it was a tough schedule means that you had a special power, right?
It's all thanks to the people next to me. There are dancers who make the stage together as well as the company family. Also, my mom and friends who always cheer me on are also supportive. Above all, I was able to move forward thanks to people who listen to my songs. Without them, there's no point in singing.
How does it feel to be a solo artist? K-pop is a market where groups are rampant, so I think there will be a lot of loneliness.
I think there are pros and cons in everything. Sometimes I felt lonely. When that happens, the staff and dancers next to me filled the empty space. So I didn't feel very lonely. The fear and pressure of failure must be on any artist. It's important to know how to release this pressure, but it depends on the artist. I still feel less pressure and less fear than others worry about me. I try to enjoy it every time. Even if I fail, I don't think it's a failure because I learn from the experience and fill in what I don't have through the people I met during the preparation process.
How can you change your mood?
I just accept loneliness, but I don't reflect on it. Let's meet good friends and share our difficulties. I tend to relieve stress by talking.
I heard you're releasing a series of single albums. What is your first concern when you start a new project?
Fun. I think about how to make it fun.
The next single is already coming out. What do you want your fans to feel in your next single? What else do you want the next single to mean?
If "Gotta Go," "Snapping," and "STAY Tonight" were dark and cold, this single is completely summery. If my last summer songs were cool and refreshing, this time it's going to be more lively and hot. I hope everyone has a great summer listening to this song.
Do you have this kind of concern? What if you run out of everything you have?
I think it's lucky to be exhausted. Sometimes I feel pressured to run out of myself, but I don't think it's just me. I'm not going to take it seriously. Instead, I try to find a new look through more work.
You have been on the rise ever since your debut. What was your goal when you were a trainee or when you dreamed of becoming a singer before that? And do you think you're close to that goal now?
Thank you for telling me so. But I can't agree. I was actually very lucky. My goal is the long run. The activity period is still short to reach the goal. If I have a chance someday, I would like to hold a concert in a small theater and expand the scale. My dream is to communicate with many people and stand on stage for a long time.
It's already been five years since your debut. What changes did Chungha have in five years?
I think many things have changed. I've met many people for four to five years. I learned a lot. As I gained experience, my view of the world changed. It's wider.
Have you ever felt you've grown up?
In the past, I thought it would be okay if someone said, "It's okay." Now I know how to say 'It's okay' to myself. Every time I do that, I feel like I've grown up a little bit.
You're 25 years old. What are your curious about now?
There's quite a lot of curiosity. I used to only look at singers, but now I have more things I want to do and learn than when I was young. If I have more time, I would like to look into new aspects of myself by learning things that I want to do.
Do you also worry about direction?
I think about where to go. But I know we can't always go that way just because we've decided on the direction. I'm trying to focus on what I want to do and what I shouldn't miss. As always, my goal is similar to my debut. I want to be a person who doesn't lose what I have and doesn't get tired.
I'm looking forward to the upcoming single and future work. What are you thinking about these days?
I think about my own space, the time that I feel the most like myself, and what I am like. Whenever I find something else that I don't even think about, I have this concern. So I want to talk about 'what I feel like' and 'what I feel most comfortable about.' I think the title of the upcoming album will be related to this.
What do you think is the most necessary now?
I think I'm satisfied with the things I have enough.
