Kang Daniel Records Over 300,000 First-Week Album Sales For 3rd Mini Album ‘YELLOW'
According to Hanteo Chart on April 20, Kang Daniel's 3rd mini-album 'YELLOW' sold a total of 316,542 copies in the first week of its release. This make the album rank #8 among all solo artist albums.
In addition, all 4 albums released since his solo debut, including 'Color On Me', 'CYAN' and 'MAGENTA', are among the top 10 best-selling albums by solo artists of all time. Kang Daniel also confirmed his unique presence with this series of albums, which presented his own music colors.
The 300,000 mark of 'YELLOW' is all the more meaningful because it is not tied to public success but focused more on his musical experiments and message delivery as an artist. It pursued an alternative R&B genre, which was not commonly tried in existing K-pop, with heavy messages of duplicity, reversal, and contradiction.
In addition, rock elements are added to each section to add depth to the sound. It was a new musical attempt and a possible challenge for the present Kang Daniel.
While 'Color On Me' announced his start as a solo artist and the COLOR series 'CYAN' and 'MAGENTA' established his position, the storytelling that led to 'PARANOIA' and 'YELLOW' has left a meaningful footprint in his musical evolution.
The music video for the title track 'Antidote' is hot as well. The music video, which recorded 10 million views in 12 hours and 20 million views in 40 hours, easily surpassed 30 million views in four days, breaking his own best record.
In response to such a heated response, Kang Daniel released a special performance video of 'Antidote' on April 19.
