Amid the coronavirus's whole situation, would it be possible for Tenet, Black Widow and Wonder Woman 1984 to take place at the theaters? That is a big question that both the producers and audience would want to find out.
There are only a few weeks left until the summer movie season (the big blockbusters of the year are almost all coming out in the summer) ... in September. The coronavirus has forced the theaters to be closed during the past 5 months.
Blockbusters like Black Widow, Wonder Woman 1984 and Tenet that were supposed to be released in May, June and July have all been delayed until this fall.
According to Variety, a survey of more than 1,000 people in the US conducted from August 3 to August 10 showed that most of them were satisfied with watching those blockbuster movies at home for the Premium VOD (video rental on demand).
In particular, 16% of respondents said that they only wanted to see Christopher Nolan's Tenet in theaters, Black Widow at 13%, and Wonder Woman 1984 at 16%. Though most movie fans enjoy watching in theaters, however, they are still happy to watch the movie at home for $20 rent. In Tenet, the approval rate is 54%, Black Widow is 55% and Wonder Woman is 53%.
Perhaps the most interesting number is the percentage of people who do not intend to watch the movie in theaters and would rather watch it at home instead, with 30% of the survey respondents gave the same opinion about Tenet.
What we can learn from this information is that living amid the pandemic for a long time makes people develop new consumer habits as entertainment.
Without movie theaters, fans of the movie began to adapt and watch more movies at home and even buy better equipment to watch. So, instead of seeing the revival of theaters when Tenet launches, we're likely to see a fresh start to a familiar, fancy-looking movie habit.
