"The Eternals", Marvel's superhero film slated for release in 2021, has changed its official title to "Eternals".
On August 27, Digital Spy reported that the official title of the movie The Eternals has been shortened to Eternals. The change is indicated after the release of the new movie plan of Walt Disney Studios from 2021-2029 was announced.
On the same day, James Gunn, director of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) series of Guardians of the Galaxy and the upcoming DC Extended Universe The Suicide Squad, took to Twitter to joke about change.
Comicbook reported that journalist Todd Seavey's Twitter account wrote: “It's not new for Marvel Studios' Eternals to cut the word‘ The ’from its title. Because James Gunn needs that word ‘The’ for next year's movie The Suicide Squad ”.
James Gunn shares the post with the comment: “My Marvel Studios colleagues gave me a loving treat with ‘The’. Thank you everyone!”. The Suicide Squad once made audiences talk around when the title of the film was only one more word The than Suicide Squad (2016) - the first film made about the squad.
Eternals is the work of director Chloé Zhao. The second work in the IV era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings together star faces such as Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, Don Lee (Ma Dong Seok) and Gemma Chan.
The upcoming movie continues the events after Avengers: Endgame and will introduce the audience to a new team of superheroes. Eternals are a group of ancient cosmic entities that have been hidden on Earth for thousands of years. Now, they must step into the light to fight their oldest foe, The Deviants.
The production has completed in February but had to postpone the release time in 2020 after Marvel Studios delays Black Widow to November 6 instead of May as planned.
