It seems like the upcoming project of the live-action GI Joe movie called "Snake Eyes" will be pushed back from the planned released date that was announced earlier.
The movie already finished its filming in February, which tells the story of the first major theatrical outing for the GI Joe brand since GI Joe: Retaliation released to mediocre reviews in 2013. Henry Golding, who starred Crazy Rich Asians as the title role.
Robert Schwentke was announced to be the director of the spinoff. Besides Henry Golding, the cast also includes Money Heist’s Úrsula Corberó, Ready or Not’s Samara Weaving, The Raid’s Iko Uwais, and Andrew Koji as Snake Eyes’ brother and nemesis, Storm Shadow.
A recent report stated that Hasbro chairman and CEO Brian Goldner were "working out the specifics with Paramount" for the film’s release, but seems like the project is now targeting a date another time next year.
Hasbro has had some mix in common between financial success and middling critical reception with its popular Transformers film franchise, though the Bumblebee spinoff film which released in 2018, received more favorable reviews in comparison to other recent additions of the franchise.
With a similar side-story focus on a fan-favorite character in the silent ninja, Snake Eyes could potentially find a similar kind of success.
