Angelina Jolie did not intend to adopt anymore child in Vietnam after Maddox, but she changed her mind because of a picture of a Vietnamese soldier.
In an interview with Vogue magazine about the work of helping refugees around the world as a UN special envoy, Angelina Jolie also shared about the journey of adoption. The Hollywood actress adopted Maddox first when she went to Cambodia to film 'Tomb Raider', then to Zahara in Ethiopia and Pax Thien in Vietnam.
Jolie recounted her predestined ability to help her become Maddox's mother: "Cambodia is a country that helps me to understand the refugees, make me engage with problems abroad in a way I've never had and take me to work at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, it helped me become a mother above all else. In 2001, when I was attending a program at a school in Samlout, I sat there on the floor. And clearly, I thought, "My son is here." A few months later, I met little Mad at an orphanage. I couldn't explain the coincidence. I'm not a superstitious person, it's a clear fact. "
When Vogue reporter asked Angelina Jolie if adopting Pax Thien and Maddox from two neighboring countries was a deliberate decision, she replied: "Yes, I thought about that. At first I did not think I would adopt children in Vietnam because I had Mad as a Cambodian and two countries with a complicated history. Then, when I was reading a book on human rights, I could not take my eyes off the image of a person. Vietnamese soldiers were imprisoned by Americans, I was thinking about our country and US intervention in Southeast Asia, I was thinking about a future all of us would be a family. When I became the mother of Mad and Pax, I feel grateful everyday. "
Taking care of a family with three adopted children and three biological children, Angelina Jolie feels honored and interesting. She said: "Every great child has his own way in the family. It's important to be open about everything and share with each other. 'Adoption', 'orphanage' are positive words in our children, I can't talk about pregnancy, but I'll tell you in detail and love the journey I found them and the first time I looked into their eyes star".
Angelina said her foster children would never lose their roots when they lived with their parents in the US: "All adopted children bring a beautiful mystery to the world in which the babies were born. from another race and strange land, it's a gift for you, full, and the kids will never lose contact with the place they were born in. They have roots, something you need to honor. and learn. It's a wonderful journey to share with each other. The kids don't step into my world, we step into each other's world ".
In the interview, Angelina Jolie also revealed about Brad Pitt's decision to break up after 10 years of dating and two years of marriage: "I broke up because of family happiness. That was the right decision. Some people have taken advantage of my silence and the children see lies about themselves in the media, but I always remind them that they know the truth and understand their own thoughts. In fact, they are six brave and powerful children. "
