NCT’s Jaehyun has posted a letter on Instagram to apologize following a controversy surrounding an outing in Itaewon with a group of idol friends.
On May 18, the agencies of Jaehyun, BTS‘s Jungkook, ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo, and SEVENTEEN‘s Mingyu confirmed a report that the idols had spent a night out together in the neighborhood of Itaewon, which is where there was a recent resurgence of COVID-19.
Dispatch reported that they went to a restaurant and two bars in the neighborhood from the evening of April 25 until dawn on April 26. After it was confirmed that a patient with COVID-19 visited clubs in the area on May 2, it was requested by the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters that anyone who visited entertainment facilities (a category that includes clubs, bars, and more) in Itaewon between April 24 and May 6 refrain from leaving their homes. The agencies of all four idols confirmed that they tested negative for COVID-19.
Following SM Entertainment’s apology that day, Jaehyun has uploaded the following handwritten apology on his Instagram:
Hello, this is Jaehyun.
I’m sorry for causing many people concern through my actions during what is a difficult time for everyone. I am deeply reflecting over how I was careless and went to a restaurant and bar in Itaewon, despite it being a period of social distancing.
I sincerely apologize to the many people I have disappointed with my actions and to the fans who believed in me and supported me. Also, I sincerely apologize to those who were harmed by my actions, including my members, company, and everyone around me that I work with.
I will think carefully and be cautious about every action I take in the future. Once again, I sincerely apologize for causing concern to many people and my fans during a period when everyone is having a hard time due to COVID-19.
