In recent years, K-Pop idol groups and solo singers have risen to cause chaos on global music charts and online streaming platforms, including Spotify. The 5 Korean artists below have had an extraordinary start on Spotify in 2021 with their newly-released album.
No.1: '-R-' from Rosé (BLACKPINK)
It is a clear fact that the debut solo album of member Rosé from BLACKPINK has been warmly welcomed by music fans across the globes. The main vocalist of the world's current biggest girl group swept the chart with her songs 'On the Ground' and 'GONE' as part of her first mini album '-R-', which was officially released on March 12, 2021.
Since then, the two songs have been breaking records and achieving new milestones. On Spotify, '-R-' already had a total stream count of 8.66 million as of this writing.
No.2: 'LILAC' from IU
IU continued to prove that her title as the "digital music queen" is not limited to South Korea. 'LILAC' is the singer's 5th studio album, which contains a total of 10 tracks. In an interview, IU revealed that the album's title means "memories of youth." The K-pop idol shared she included a farewell message in the album as she goes onward to the next chapter of her life.
IU pre-released the album title track 'Celebrity' in February, which has also been reigning supreme in various music charts worldwide. On Spotify, 'LILAC' has garnered more than 3.11 million streams already.
No.3: 'Bambi' from Baekhyun (EXO)
EXO member Baekhyun comes in third with his (also) third mini album titled 'Bambi', which consists of 6 tracks, including the carrier single 'Amusement Park'. In an announcement, SM Entertainment shared that the album contains mature song lyrics with fairytale expressions. 'Bambi' is also the last product by Baekhyun before he officially enlists for his the army on May 6.
Being the first "million seller" soloist in 20 years of K-Pop with his previous mini album 'Delight', Baekhyun once again showed off his global influence. On Spotify, the album already surpassed 1.9 million streams.
No.4: 'Zero: Fever Part 2' from ATEEZ
Although being a 4th-generation group, ATEEZ times after times proves that they are a formidable force on the global music market. They made their comeback earlier this month with their sixth extended play titled 'Zero: Fever Part 2'. The album's lead single 'I'm the One' was able to enter the Gaon Digital Chart, where it peaked at No. 148.
'Zero: Fever Part 2' also debuted at the top of the Gaon Album Chart and at No. 8 in the Billboard World Album Chart. On Spotify, the album amassed a total of 1.81 million streams already.
No.5: 'Don't Call Me' from SHINee
Completing this top 5 and also the only 2nd-generation boy group on the list is SHINee with their 7th studio album 'Don't Call Me' released on February 22, 2021. K-Pop fans considered it as a huge comeback since it is the first time the group released an album since 3 members returned from their military service.
Although the group has been in the business for 13 years, they are still going strong as 'Don't Call Me' peaked at No. 1 on Gaon Album Chart. On Spotify, SHINee already generated a total of 1.79 million streams with 'Don't Call Me'.
