A source revealed on October 28 that according to the guidelines from Clinique's headquarters, the stores are either putting down posters which have Irene's image or replacing her with other images. The image of the product on their homepage has also been changed.

Clinique selected Irene as their exclusive model for the Asia-Pacific area in March. At the time, Clinique said they selected Irene as a model because they thought she could express the brand motto, "healthy and happy skin", better than anyone else.

However, as Irene's controversy has been causing storms across Korean online communities, Clinique's move is interpreted as a measure to deal with the pressures from the public.

Earlier, on October 20, a 15-year-old stylist and editor criticized Irene for abusing her celebrity power. SM Entertainment, the idol's agency, started checking the facts and eventually Irene officially apologized to the stylist.

In the aftermath of the incident, Red Velvet canceled their fan meeting at the Korean Culture Festival. Also, the upcoming movie 'Double Patty' starring Irene has become uncertain in terms of its schedule and promotion activities.
