SM Entertainment announced that they are working with 10 law firms to take strong legal actions against malicious rumors towards their artists.
The entertainment company posted an official position on November 2, declaring a war against those who defame and spread false rumors about their artists.
SM said, "We are conducting strong civil and criminal legal actions against the illegal acts against our artists by commissioning more than 10 law firms, including the nation's top law firms and specialized law firms in each field," adding, "Recently, malicious rumors, malicious postings/comments, defamation were posted indiscriminately on online communities, SNS, portal sites, etc."
"We also inform you that not only creating malicious rumors by fabricating groundless information, and publishing articles that constitute defamation based on unconfirmed facts, but also spreading such rumors is clearly illegal and subject to strong legal action. Please be careful not to get involved in unsavory matters," the agency emphasized.
In addition, they revealed, "We have received thousands of reports daily in our e-mail account ([email protected]), which was opened in December 2017, and we have confirmed all of them and filed complaints from time to time after consulting with the artist," adding, "With a huge amount of malicious postings and groundless rumors being spread, we are checking for illegal activities based on our own monitoring, fans' reports on domestic and international platforms and portal sites, and we are still taking legal action on a number of issues, including the conviction of a large number of cases."
Finally, SM Entertainment made a promise to fans, "We will continue to protect the artist's images, rights, honor, and active growth and development."
