On October 2, Friday, the nominations for the 46th People's Choice Awards, one of the United States' biggest entertainment awards shows, have been revealed. As K-pop starts to gain hype and traction in the West, it's no surprise the two biggest groups in the American music market - BLACKPINK and BTS - snagged some nominations for themselves.

Check out what categories they were nominated for here!

BTS is nominated for "The Group of 2020". It is no surprise why. Throughout the year, BTS has released multiple hit songs, such as "ON", "Black Swan" and the all-English single "Dynamite". The boys also continuously released content despite the COVID-19 pandemic and held the world's most-attended online concert.

Previously, BTS won the award for "Group of the Year" during the 44th People's Choice Awards in 2018. They were nominated again in 2019 but lost to BLACKPINK.

BTS's song, "Dynamite", is nominated for "The Song of 2020". The single is the group's first all-English single and is the group's first song to hit number one on the Billboard Charts. It is also the only song by a South Korean song to top the charts. It even stayed there for a second week, proving the popularity of their song.

During the 44th People's Choice Award, BTS won that same award for their song "IDOL".

The boy group's album, "Map of the Soul: 7", is nominated for "The Album of 2020". When the album first dropped, "Map of the Soul: 7" topped the Billboard 200 Chart and was praised by music critics for exploring different styles and genres yet still sounding cohesive, having that BTS flavor.

Lastly, BTS is also nominated the "The Music Video of 2020" for "Dynamite". The music video was record-breaking, with the biggest YouTuber premiere ever with three million peak concurrent viewers. It is also the fastest YouTube video to reach 10 million views, reaching the number in the first 20 minutes of its release. It also broke the record for the most-viewed YouTube video in its first 24 hours, garnering 101.1 million views and smashing three Guinness World Records. It is also the fastest music video to surpass 200 million views and 400 million views.

In the 44th People's Choice Award, BTS won "The Music Video of 2018" with "IDOL". In 2019, "Boy With Luv (feat. Halsey)" was nominated for the award.

Let's move on to BLACKPINK! Like BTS, BLACKPINK was nominated for "The Group of 2020". 2020 has been BLACKPINK's biggest and most active year yet. The group has released two pre-release singles and is dropping their first full-length studio album on October 2, 1 PM KST. Are we even surprised they are nominated?

BLACKPINK previously won "The Group of 2019" in the 45th People's Choice Awards.

BLACKPINK is also nominated for "The Music Video of 2020" for "Ice Cream (feat. Selena Gomez)". The music video is bright and pink, which contrasts with BLACKPINK's past music videos that leaned heavily into their girl crush concept. It is as sweet as ice cream and shows a unique collaboration between Selena Gomez and BLACKPINK. As of October 1, 2020, the music video has amassed over 300 million views.

In 2019, BLACKPINK won "The Music Video of 2019" award for "KILL THIS LOVE" at the 45th People's Choice Awards.
