On December 30, YG Entertainment released the first teaser for their new, upcoming girl group.
Titled “YG Next Movement,” the teaser showed seven silhouettes, which perfectly aligns with previous netizens’ theories that YG Entertainment’s next girl group would have seven members.
When YG Entertainment first announced in May 2021 that they were preparing to debut a new girl group, netizens had already begun searching for hints about who might be included in the lineup.
Now netizens have their first proper look at the new girl group from a short teaser video posted to YG Entertainment’s official YouTube account.
In the video, YG Entertainment confirms that the group will be called BABYMONSTER and gives viewers a look into the group’s practices.
"Think of them as a BABY that have the genes of YG." — Yang Hyun Suk
Along with the clips of BABYMONSTER diligently training, which already show off the charisma and skill of the group, other active YG Entertainment artists also comment on the group’s immense talents. Both WINNER‘s Hoony and Yoon agree that BABYMONSTER posses skills that will help distinguish them from other artists.
"There is absolutely no doubt about how outstanding their skills are." — WINNER’s Hoony
"There aren’t that many talents out there that can do so well like this." — WINNER’s Yoon
AKMU‘s Lee Chanhyuk seemingly agrees, explaining that he thinks “they’re the type of singers that’s hard to find in Korea.”
Both AKMU’s Lee Suhyun and YGX dancer and popular choreographer Lee Jung agree that not only do the members have immense talent but that their facial expressions and determination make them impossible to look away from.
"They were really good at facial expressions and gestures that can really steal people’s attention." — AKMU’s Lee Suhyun
"She was born with talent, and her biggest strength is that you can really see how determined she is through her eyes." — YGX’s Lee Jung
BLACKPINK‘s Lisa and Jennie also share their excitement for the group, which isn’t surprising given how Lisa has previously discussed encouraging trainees, likely some members of BABYMONSTER, through their difficult training period.
"All seven members go well with each other." — BLACKPINK’s Lisa
"They’re really good overall." — BLACKPINK’s Jennie
And former YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk explains that he has faith in BABYMONSTER “[shocking] this world” because of “how they shocked [him] at monthly evaluations” over their four years of training.
"Just like how they shocked me at monthly evaluations over the past four years, I really hope they become ‘Stars that will shock this world.’" — Yang Hyun Suk
With the validation of BABYMONSTER’s talent from some of YG Entertainment’s most talented artists, fans can certainly anticipate the group’s debut.
