After much speculation, the shareholder meeting of YG Entertainment officially confirmed a new girl group will be released.
Although BLACKPINK hasn't seen a comeback schedule yet, YG's new girl group is ready to debut just like the company usual debut cycle.
The annual shareholder meeting at YG on March 27 announced many new information as well as information that was previously rumored, creating many surprises for the audience.
Specifically, their boy group TREASURE and new girl group (named Baby Monster) are going to debut this year. This plan will be implemented after BLACKPINK's comeback in 2020. After the seniors complete the schedule, TREASURE will debut first, then come the mysterious girl group.
According to the information provided by YG, the new girl group will have a completely different image from the company's seniors. This means that the new group will not follow the "cool" concept but will follow the "cute" one.
This information made the fans quite confused by 2 reasons. First, YG let a new girl group debut while BLACKPINK only has 13 songs and no full album. YG couldn't take good care of one girl group, as BLACKPINK still has a lot of potential to exploit, especially in the international market. Will they be able to handle 2 girl groups at once?
Secondly, the concept of the new group will be different from the seniors. That is, they will follow a cute and innocent style, but will this make YG lose their distinctive signature? YG has always been known for its unique style but this running after the market may ruin them.
After the confirmation of YG, the fans were somewhat disappointed. Is it possible for the new group to change YG's future or is it their wrong move?
