The image of female vampires appeared very early in literary works. By the time the movie industry flourished, a series of horror movies about these cold-blooded creatures were born. Here are the very first and most typical female vampires on the screen, big and small.
Carmilla in the novel 'Carmilla' (1872)
Carmilla is a female vampire who also appeared even before the famous movie 'Dracula'. Sheridan LeFanu's novel about this blood-sucking demon was released in 1872 but was not made into a film until 1989. Carmilla was dubbed the standard for female vampires - the mother of all vampires.
Queen of Blood in 'Queen of Blood' (1966)
Not only a vampire, the Queen of Blood in "Queen of Blood" is also a space creature with impressive green skin. Very few works have this strange combination.
Elisabeth Nososheen in 'Countess Dracula' (1971)
Possessing a hot and seductive appearance, Elisabethe Nososheen had to bathe in blood constantly to keep her beauty. The character was inspired by Elizabeth Bathory, a real Countess of the Hungarian aristocracy and one of the most dangerous women in history.
Miriam Blaylock in 'The Hunger' (1981)
Two years after the novel's debut, it was quickly adapted into a movie, and the vampire of Whitley Striber differs from her peers in that she cannot create new vampires by sucking blood of victims.
Akasha in 'The Queen of the Damned' (1988)
As one of the most cruel female vampires, Akasha is not afraid to end her fellow humans or anyone who wants to prevent her from doing what she wants. It was not until 2002 that the film was adapted from the novel of Anna Rice.
Janette DuChanrme in 'Forever Knight' (1992-1996)
Appearing in a Canadian drama that lasted for four years, Janette Ducharme is a charming and elegant club manager who rarely complains and notices the surroundings, so many vampires admire her.
Drusilla in 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' (1997-2003)
7 seasons is an impressive number for a drama in the early 2000s. Many people are not too happy with Drusilla's appearance but her crazy and dangerous personality is enough to draw strong attention. She is a typical "bad girl".
Selene in 'Underworld' (2003)
The modern embodiment of the female vampires often seen nowadays is inspired by the vampire warrior Selene. Dressed in black outfits with dangerous weapons, Selene fights non-stop with the bad guys, proving that women can have it all, as long as they want.
