With the spirit of opposing racial discrimination and encouraging people’s awareness of the existence of racism in real life, “Just Mercy”, a legal drama starring Michael B.Jordan has been made available to stream for free in the US.
On the movie’s official Twitter account, they said: “We believe in the power of story. #JustMercy is one resource we can offer to those who are interested in learning more about the systemic racism that plagues our society,”
It happened with multiple protests in the US as a reaction to the death of George Floyd, a black man who died after a white police officer knelt on his neck. A synopsis shared by Warner Bros reads: “A powerful and thought-provoking true story, Just Mercy follows young lawyer Bryan Stevenson (Jordan) and his history-making battle for justice. After graduating from Harvard, Bryan had his pick of lucrative jobs. Instead, he heads to Alabama to defend those wrongly condemned or who were not afforded proper representation, with the support of local advocate Eva Ansley (Larson).
According to Indiewire, the audience now can watch the film on online formats like Amazon, Apple TV in June. Warner Bros. shows the expectations of spreading out educating meaning and help people understand the actual state in the US.
Just Mercy was first coming out at the theater in 2019, with the story about a false case of Walter McMillian (Jamie Foxx) - an African American. In 1986, he was accused of killing a white woman. When Bryan Stevenson (Michael B.Jordan) - a Harvard law student - reinvestigated the case, he discovered many unusual details, especially the controversy of the witness's testimony. The movie was nominated for three prizes at Black Reel Awards - an honor award for the black community - in 2020.
Many Hollywood celebrities have attended the racism opposing protests, including Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes, Halsey, Ben Affleck. Meanwhile, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Britney Spears or Kylie Jenner have changed their avatars on social accounts into black color to spread out the message.
