Henry Cavill will be seen as Superman again in Zack Snyder's cut of Justice League for HBO Max. But it turns out that even that unexpected project will not be the final time Henry Cavill dons his superhero cape.
The British actor is in talks to reprise the role of Clark Kent in an upcoming DC Comics movie, Variety confirmed on Wednesday.
Cavill, 37, has inhabited the character three times - in 2013's Man Of Steel, 2016's Batman v Superman and 2017's Justice League.
He himself had hinted at the end of last year that a return to the Superman role might be on the cards.
In November 2019, he told Mens' Health magazine: 'The cape is still in the closet. It’s still mine.'
Cavill went on: 'I’ve not given up the role. There’s a lot I have to give for Superman yet. A lot of storytelling to do. A lot of real, true depths to the honesty of the character I want to get into.
'I want to reflect the comic books. That’s important to me,' he said. 'There’s a lot of justice to be done for Superman. The status is: You’ll see.'
Meanwhile, the actor is set to resume filming for a second season of Netflix's fantasy series The Witcher once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
Based on Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski's fantasy novels, the series stars Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, a 'solitary monster hunter who struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts,' according to IMDb.
