Even celebrities are getting in on the #MetGalaChallenge. Introduced by Vogue and style star Billy Porter in light of this year’s postponed party, the social media challenge tasks fashion fans with recreating iconic red carpet outfits from past Met Galas — and over the weekend, Mindy Kaling became the first A-lister to participate.
The “Never Have I Ever” creator, 40, shared an Instagram shot on Friday of herself channeling Jared Leto’s viral red Gucci look from the 2019 event, which was accessorized with a life-sized replica of the actor’s own head.
“Recreating one of my favorite Met Gala looks ever with the help of a tarp, some Christmas lights and packing tape,” Kaling captioned her post. “I think [Gucci designer] Alessandro Michele would approve.”
Stylish Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon was the next celeb to take a stab at the #MetGalaChallenge, wrapping himself in a fluffy yellow blanket and gilded headpiece reminiscent of Rihanna’s unforgettable canary-colored Guo Pei couture from the 2015 red carpet.
Porter, 50, and Vogue will be choosing the costume challenge’s winners, whose looks will be showcased on the magazine’s Instagram page as well as those for the Metropolitan Museum and the Met’s Costume Institute.
The question is: Will any other celebrities manage to pull off a red carpet-ready entry before the cutoff?
