This week, Harry Styles‘ single Watermelon Sugar climbed from No. 7 topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This is the single No. 1 first since Harry Styles started working as a solo artist. Harry Styles also became the second ‘piece’ of One Direction to dominate the Hot 100 chart after Zayn (Pillowtalk – 2016).
Watermelon Sugar sold 63,000 digital tracks last week, and was streamed 14.2 million times in the US market. Although being released in May, Watermelon Sugar has just made a miracle so far. Partly because the MV behind-the-scenes video was released by Harry Styles at the end of July. In addition, National Watermelon Day August 3 brought the hashtag #WatermelonSugarDay to the headlines on Twitter, increasing the heat for the song.
When he was a member of One Direction, Harry Styles and the boys had 6 songs in the top 10, in which the highest ranking was No. 2 went to Best Song Ever in 2018. When he started his solo activities, Harry Styles reached number one place at No.4 with his 2017 opening single Sign of the Times.
Harry Styles also beat the song No. 1 week ago of ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift – cardigan. Currently, cardigan is holding 8th place. In the top 10 of this week’s Hot 100 charts, there’s also a notable name. Billie Eilish’s My Future debuted at No. 6, becoming the highest debut ranking for the female artist, and the 3rd single to reach Billie’s top 10.
