The original TRON was a sci-fi film released in 1982, with Jeff starred as Kevin Flynn. Kevin was a computer programmer who is transported inside of a mainframe computer and wanted to escape by using the program.

In the second movie in 2010 called TRON: Legacy, Flynn happened to have been missing for over 20 years. Sam, his adult son is accidentally transported inside the mainframe computer, which is exactly like the one his father used and he finds his missing father and learns Clu. Clu appeared as an ally turned into an enemy then went on trapping him inside the machine.

After the release, the movie received such controversial comments on the plots and the script. However, it was hailed for its fantastic visual effects and also a success in the box office.

The producers then decided to spin off into other media, including video games, comics, and an animated series, that was aired on Disney XD.

During the talks about making the third installment of TRON, which originally called TRON: Ascension, the main cast of the Legacy was planned to return until the movie was scrapped in 2015.

According to actor Garrett Hedlund (play as Sam), the project was postponed because of the critical and box office bomb Tomorrowland.

However, Disney executive Mitchell Lieb shared that the 3rd movie is now officially back in development. According to a source, Jared Leto is set to star, and the film will act as less of a reboot and more of a sequel.
