Sunmi has now become one of the few Korean female solo artists who reached the impressive milestone of 100M streams on the international music platform Spotify with her 'Gashina'.
In the Korean music industry, besides the MV view count on YouTube, the stream count of a product on online music platforms is also a thing that is very much interested by fans. The stream count will show part of the popularity of that K-Pop song not only in the Korean music market, but also on an international level. Recently, the list of K-Pop artists who have reached a massive streaming milestone on Spotify continues to have a new name: Sunmi.
On April 4, 2020, Sunmi and her hit song, Gashina, officially reached 100 million streams on Spotify. The song was released by Sunmi on August 22, 2017, which means that it took her over 2.5 years to surpass this amazing number of streams.
Sunmi is also the second Korean female idol whose song has reached 100 million streams. Before that was Jennie's SOLO (now has reached 200 million streams). Moreover, Sunmi is now the only female artist from the 2nd generation of K-Pop idols to have this achievement. In general, Sunmi is the 5th K-Pop artist to own this impressive milestone song on the platform (after PSY, 2 BTS members Jungkook and V, Jennie). Gashina marked Sunmi's successful solo performance in 2017 with an addictive melody and dance. As an female idol from gen 2, Sunmi is still a formidable opponent on the new K-Pop race.
