JYP Entertainment has made their statement after the music video for 'MORE & MORE' from girl group TWICE were embroiled in a plagiarism controversy.
Recently, sculpture artist Davis McCarty said on his SNS that, "TWICE plagiarized my sculpture and made a music video. The music video 'MORE & MORE' has already surpassed 15 million views. This is a blatant violation of copyright on art," he said. "Please advise me."
In the MV, TWICE is seen dancing in front of a colorful sculpture. The writer said the sculpture that appeared in the scene belonged to him. Looking at the writer's SNS, we can find a post on April 15, 2018 that said the work was displayed at the Light City Art Walk in Baltimore, the U.S. under the name 'Pulse Portal'.
"The fact that my work has affected the world is very magical," Davis McCarty criticized TWICE for plagiarizing his work. "Please share this post," he said.
Currently, the post on the artist's page has been deleted.
Regarding this plagiarism controversy, , JYP Entertainment said in an official statement, "We became aware this morning that a set in the music video 'MORE & MORE' is similar to a specific work in the past, so we asked the music video production company to resolve the issue smoothly through dialogue with the original creator of the existing work," adding, "As a company releasing the artists' works, JYP will come up with a way to supplement the verification system to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future."
Meanwhile, TWICE made their comeback with the 9th mini album 'MORE & MORE' on June 1. When the title track of the album was released, it proved huge popularity by topping real-time charts on major music sites in South Korea such as Melon, Genie Music, Bugs and Soribada.
