Leader of boy group INFINITE Sunggyu will transform into a very different character this time through the upcoming musical 'Kinky Boots'.
His agency, Woollim Entertainment, said on June 18th that, "Infinite Sunggyu has been cast as Charlie in the musical 'Kinky Boots', which confirmed its fourth season performance in August."
Charlie is a character who challenges making a 80-centimeter 'Kinky Boots' to revive the failing shoe factory in the musical. Sunggyu is expected to meet the audience with his unique tone and appealing acting.
Sunggyu shared, "It's such an honor to be 'Charlie' in 2020," adding, "I want to meet the audience on stage as soon as possible." In particular, this will be Sunggyu's first work since his discharge from the military, which is already drawing keen attention.
INFINITE's main vocalist Sunggyu has grown into an all-around entertainer, working in various fields such as K-pop, variety shows and musicals. The idol, who entered the musical scene in 2012 starting with 'Gwanghamun Sonata', has since emerged as a talented actor, standing out in famous works such as 'In the Heights', 'All Shook Up' and 'Amadeus'.
'Kinky Boots' was first released in 2014, and has become a successful repertoire, surpassing 300,000 cumulative audiences in South Korea with just three season performances.
The musical starring Sunggyu will open at Interpark Hall in Blue Square in Seoul on August 21.
