Following CL's interview where she revealed she first found out about 2NE1's disbandment through an article, YouTube reporter Lee Jin Ho revealed the "truth" behind the disbandment that stemmed from the "conflict" between YG Entertainment and this member.
On the 21st, a video titled, "The Truth of 2NE1 Disbandment" drew attention, wherein YouTube reporter Lee Jin Ho narrated the sequence of events that led the members to part ways.
YouTuber Lee Jin Ho Claims Gong Minzy Had a Conflict with YG Entertainment During Contract Renewal
On the 17th, CL told AP Entertainment that she first learned about the disbandment of 2NE1 just through an article, which reignited the discussion about the topic.
On the same day, Lee Jin Ho uploaded a video about the disbandment on his official YouTube channel. While talking about 2NE1 disbandment, Lee then claimed that there was a member who was already trying to depart from the agency prior to the official dissolution of the team.
"In May 2016, Gong Minzy had a conflict with YG Entertainment during the contract renewal process. In the end, she left 2NE1," the YouTuber stated.
The withdrawal from the group received mixed reactions, and when Minzy received the most criticism, the idol's father responded, "If you will do a media play, I will hold a press conference and reveal the truth. I'm trying to make this a beautiful breakup," Jin Ho then emphasized the deep conflict between the two sides.
Lee Jinho Says YG Entertainment Tried to Regroup 2NE1 as a Trio Group, Just then BLACKPINK Popularity Skyrocketed
The conflict between the singer and her former agency allegedly continued that Minzy couldn't even participate in the farewell track, "Goodbye," released by the members.
Lee Jin Ho added, " In fact, as a result of checking, the three remaining members prepared an album. But the process was not smooth either."
Among them, Lee Jin Ho claimed that there was a member, whom he didn't specify, that made the comeback more impossible.
"According to (celebrity) officials, YG had a hard time controlling (this) member at the time. The comeback songs were also prepared and the recording setting was completed, but this member continued to not make up her mind."
The YouTuber further stated how CEO Yang at that time initially wanted 2NE1 to thrive as a three-member group, but due to difficulties with "controlling" the members, the former leader eventually gave up the group.
In the process, BLACKPINK's debut accelerated rapidly. Some even speculated that some of the comeback songs of 2NE1 might have been included in the debut album of BLACKPINK.
Nevertheless, Lee Jin Ho criticized YG Entertainment who announced the group's disbandment without consulting the members first.
"As the dissolution was announced without even informing the leader CL, the members' opinions were not respected in the decision-making process."
