On November 22, King Charles held a special investiture in Buckingham Palace’s 1844 room—where the royal family receives its most distinguished guests—in which he awarded all four members of BLACKPINK honorary MBEs.
BLACKPINK’s MBEs are in recognition of their role as official advocates for the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow.
Notably, because Rosé holds dual New Zealand citizenship and is therefore a national of a British realm, her MBE is considered “substantive” rather than just honorary.
The investiture was also attended by South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol and first lady Kim Keon Hee, who are currently on a state visit to the United Kingdom.
King Charles previously hosted a lavish white tie banquet for the South Korean president and first lady at Buckingham Palace on November 21, with all four members of BLACKPINK in attendance.
During his speech at the banquet, King Charles briefly mentioned the idols by saying, “I applaud Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé—better known collectively as BLACKPINK—for their role in bringing the message of environmental sustainability to a global audience. I can only admire how they can prioritize these vital issues, as well as being global superstars.”
Congratulations to BLACKPINK on their new titles!
