Netizens often make a lot of claims about K-Pop idols, and the BTS members are no exceptions. Throughout the years, there have been some ridiculous claims made by netizens about the BTS members. Here are 5 of them.
1. Netizens accusing BTS of sajaegi
In 2015, netizens accused BTS of sajaegi (where a company buys albums in large quantities to inflate the official numbers) since their album “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 1″ was beating BIGBANG on the Hanteo Charts. Also, BTS’s agency (Big Hit Entertainment) wasn’t big at the time, so netizens thought it was strange that a group from a small company was selling so many albums.
Not long after these accusations were made, Big Hit Entertainment released a statement saying that they didn’t have the resources to do something like sajaegi.

Not only that, but fans also came to BTS’s defense and cleared up the suspicions.
2. Netizens claiming that BTS would fail
When BTS debuted, they received a lot of hate from netizens. Many netizens commented on how the group would fail due to their name (Bangtan Sonyeondan, meaning Bulletproof Boyscouts). BTS also received criticism for saying that they looked up to BIGBANG.
“Why don’t you name the members like a bulletproof helmet or bulletproof vest as well”
“Rap monster ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ”
“Rap monster ㅋㅋㅋㅋ SugaㅋㅋㅋㅋBTSㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋIt’s so lame”
“Their name sounds like a Japanese group from the 80’s”
“Just because your role model is BIGBANG doesn’t mean you become like them”
“They’ll probably try to be like BIGBANG and then disappear a year later, 2 years at most ㅋㅋㅋ”— Netizens
These malicious netizens ended up being wrong, as BTS went on to become legends who helped spread K-Pop globally.
3. Netizens claiming that V is rude
In 2015, when BTS were giving their acceptance speech on an episode of M! Countdown, V was seen singing BIGBANG‘s “Loser”.
Netizens criticized V for this and some even said that he was being rude.
“He’s really going overboard. BIGBANG fans are going to be so pissed.”
“I’m not even a fan and it looks like he’s mocking them.”
“His fans are being ridiculous. ’It’s cause he’s excited’…so disrespectful.”— Netizens
Not long after, V posted on BTS’s Twitter account, which many believed was a response to these comments.
These three songs are the ones I listen to every day before going to sleep because they’re really good, so it became a habit that the lyrics came out of my mouth upon receiving the trophy..ㅠㅠ I love you guys, you’re really cool!— V
4. Netizens claiming that RM is “trying to be charming”
On an online community called Pann, a post was made that claimed that RM was “An idol that is ugly but pretends to be handsome and fatally charming.” Some netizens ended up commenting, saying that they agreed with this post.
However, RM has shown off his charming visuals many times and has proved that he’s a gorgeous person.
5. Netizens claiming that Jin and Lee Guk Joo were dating
Some netizens began speculating that Jin and Lee Guk Joo were dating when comedian Jo Se Ho joked that Lee Guk Joo was dating a handsome idol trainee. Netizens thought that this handsome idol trainee was Jin, as Lee Guk Joo and Jin are quite close.
However, during an episode of Radio Star, Lee Guk Joo cleared up these rumors and said that she and Jin were just close friends.
