Heechul revealed that he didn't enjoy getting attention for donating to causes, and wanted to keep it quiet, but his management asked him to reveal his charity to the press to stop the negative comments online.
The negative comments ranged from people who thought badly of the idol for not donating when he himself was from the region, to those who thought he didn't give enough (after it was revealed that he did in fact donate).
Netizens reacted to Heechul's story.
"oh my gosh, there are people who criticize others for not donating money?"
"Why would they criticize him? They really have nothing better to do."
"I wonder if those people even donate 1,000 won before saying things like that."
"Do they not know what donate means? What are third party observers doing comparing amounts like that.
"Aside from the money, I think those people probably just didn't like Heechul. Crazy haters."
"There seems to be no one who donated even 1 million won, let alone 10 million won, among the kids who commented."
"I don't understand why people say we shouldn't just be praising the person who donated, and I don't understand swearing at the amount. Donating, no matter how much, is a wonderful act in itself."
