SM Entertainment to Remove EXO Baekhyun's Videos on His Youtube Channel

Back on May 6, EXO's Baekhyun became the sixth member of the group to enlist for his mandatory military service, inevitably halting his promotions and activities for at least 18 months.

With him being on hiatus, he decided not to leave fans empty-handed. Prior to Baekhyun's enlistment, had had filmed numerous videos, so that he would be able to release at least one video a month during the time of his military service.

Since then, SM Entertainment had been sharing the videos to keep fans occupied. However, on November 18 KST, SM Entertainment released an official statement through Baekhyun's personal Youtube channel regarding the removal of videos that were posted beginning his time of enlistment and onwards.

According to SM Entertainment, they have decided to cease posting videos while Baekhyun is doing his service to avoid any unexpected misunderstandings from occurring.

Read SM Entertainment statement below:

"This is SM Entertainment. We wish to inform you that KyoongTube's contents will be removed until Baekhyun is discharged from the military. So far, we have been releasing one video each month as a little way to repay fans for the love that they have been giving Baekhyun, of which the videos were filmed prior to his enlistment. Although it is not a violation of the law to release videos that were filmed and produced prior to his enlistment, we have decided to remove all the videos that were uploaded after his enlistment in order to prevent any unexpected misunderstandings that differ from our intentions. We hope that fans will understand."

South Korea's Current Law Regarding Income for Active Military Personnel

SM Entertainment's decision and statement was made based on South Korea's current law regarding the earning of income for those actively serving in the military.

According to the law, those who are in the military are not allowed to earn any official salary besides that given in the military. Hence, military personnel are not allowed to have another occupation.

While Baekhyun's videos do not violate any of these laws as he had filmed them before enlisting back in May, SM Entertainment hopes to prevent any misunderstandings from both the public and the administrations from occurring in the future regarding the legality of his earnings on Youtube while actively serving in the military.

Meanwhile, Baekhyun and his fellow EXO members Suho, Chanyeol, and Chen are currently on hiatus for their mandatory military service.
