1/ Jisoo (BLACKPINK)
In 2020, Marie Claire magazine released a series of Jisoo’s photos. In addition to the compliments, there were some mixed opinions about the pictures being over-edited.
According to some netizens, those edited photos made Jisoo’s neck look abnormally thin. Netizens believe that Jisoo’s neck is bigger in real life, not as slim as in the photo.
Compared with her other photos or previous magazine photoshoots, netizens had even more reasons to criticize Marie Claire magazine’s new set of images because the photoshop work made Jisoo’s facial proportions look unnatural.
Specifically, some pointed out that her eyes and lips occupy more space on her face, which means her face is overly shrunk, fans believe it didn’t look that small in real life.
Since Jisoo has already been recognized as one of the most gorgeous faces of gen 3, overly photoshopping her images like this is nothing more than implying her beauty is not enough.
2/ JooE (MOMOLAND)
JooE once caught the attention after she posted an ID photo on Instagram. In the photo, she had long black hair and a pretty v-line face.
However, many people can immediately tell that JooE has used too much photoshop on the photo. Even at first sight, it’s easy to realize how different the image is from her real appearance.
Her face in the picture was a lot slimmer, the eyes are super big and the mouth looks much smaller. Even fans could hardly recognize JooE in this photo.
Since ID photos are used for essential papers, they should not be edited at all, let alone too much like that. Some even joked that if JooE was to use the photo for any important papers, for example, her passport, there would be high chances of her being caught and questioned about her identity.
To protect JooE from the wave of criticism, Momoland’s fans tried to defend her. Of course, they had good reasons for that.
Obviously, JooE has improved her appearance a lot compared to the past thanks to weight loss, hairstyle, and makeup changes. So maybe the photo was not edited that much.
3/ Chaeyeon (D.I.A)
Chaeyeon is one the most famous members in D.I.A thanks to her angelic face and good acting skills.
Most of the audience can’t deny her stunning visual on and off-stage. Still, a goddess like Chaeyeon had to face some criticism due to using too much photoshop.
In this edited photo, it’s easy to see that her thighs and legs are much thinner than in real life, totally contrasting with her chubby legs in some photos taken by fans.
As a result, a lot of people expressed their disappointment when seeing how Chaeyeon’s body in real life wasn’t as ideal as in the edited photo.
However, some fans think she doesn’t need to photoshop her legs because to them, her real chubby legs are so unique and cute.
4/ Narsha (BROWN EYED GIRL)
In this photo, Narsha was posing on the balcony with very nice makeup and clothes. At first glance, nothing worth discussing.
But just a few seconds later, you’ll realize the electric pole behind her was seriously bent.
Obviously, Narsha didn’t even bother to hide the fact that she had edited the photo. Some left funny comments like: “How much did she edit to make the pole that curvy?” “Maybe she was so hot that even the electric pole some meters away had to melt.”
5/ Hani (EXID)
Hani has a beautiful, ideal figure. Yet, due to such overly photoshopped products, many people were skeptical about her real body.
The stomach was oddly flat and her shoulders were unproportionally narrow. Her arms were also overly edited because they look super short.
Ironically, whereas all the other parts were photoshopped, the editor seemed to have forgotten to match the color of Hani’s leg with the rest of her body.
I really don’t get this, photoshop is used to make you look more beautiful, but in this photo, Hani looks obviously not right, like the anatomy is all wrong.
Two other members, Junghwa and Sol-ji, were also the victims of Photoshop. Junghwa suddenly had a long neck while Sol-ji’s back was oddly bent.
Since their postures and facial expressions were so stiff, some said that they looked like the characters of the video game “The Sims”.
6/ NingNing (Aespa)
Recently, on the Korean Pann forum, a post criticizing some Aespa’s fans for using too much photoshop went viral.
With a series of comparison pictures posted, netizens pointed out that Aespa’s fans have repeatedly edited NingNing’s photos to make her body fit better in the beauty standard.
Since debuting, NingNing’s body has caused a lot of controversies each time Aespa appeared on music shows.
While some people like her curvy figure, others criticize her for having a somewhat thicker body compared to the other members, which is easily revealed when she wears sleeveless and short skirts.
As you can see in the original photos, NingNing’s thighs, waist, and arms are chubbier. Whereas in the edited photos, she looks like a graphic character stepping straight out of a game. Not only her body but her face also overly altered.
Many netizens were surprised because this was the first time they saw a fandom editing Kpop idols’ fancam photos.
Some people think that instead of using too much photoshop, perhaps fans should learn to love their own Kpop idols‘ real looks.
7/ Tiffany (SNSD)
As the first KPOP star to appear on the cover of a famous Vietnamese magazine, Tiffany made fans excited when she teased a few excellent unedited photos on her personal page.
However, when the official image was published, many fans were disappointed because it was pretty different from the original one.
They realized that her chin was over-edited, it’s longer and sharper than usual. Her skin is pale and less youthful, her face also looks stiff and unnatural.
Some even described this overly edited photo makes Tiffany look less feminine, but rather more muscular.
This isn’t the first time Tiffany becomes the victim of poor photoshop skills. Look at this!
This picture scared me a little bit when I first saw it.
In the pic, Tiffany’s nose looks so stiff as if she just had a completely failed nose job, and her jawline was unnaturally trimmed.
Moreover, the editor shortened her legs, making her body proportion look extremely wrong. Some fans even complained that she looked like a deformed person.
Really, why make her legs shorter tho? Doesn’t everybody want long legs?
8/ EXO
In 2015, EXO-Ls got so angry after SM published a solo concert picture of EXO. Many people were shocked by the weird looks of the EXO members in the edited photo.
Their faces became shorter and smaller just like cartoon characters. The sharp edges on their faces were softened, making every of them look like a baby. Thus, their cool and charismatic vibes unexpectedly disappeared.
This became a hilarious topic on the Internet when many people joked that EXO members had plastic surgery at the same cosmetic surgery address. The others blamed SM for choosing a disaster photo for such an important promotion.
9/ I.O.I
In Kpop, it’s rare to see all the members in a crowded group have the exact same height.
Take I.O.I for example, while Somi, Kyulkyung and Nayeon are famous for their ideal height of about 170 centimeters, their fellows Chungha and Yoojung are much shorter with the height of 156cm.
However, in this poster, we can hardly see any difference among their height and body proportions.
Yoojung and Chungha are now as tall as the others, which made fans confused.
Upon this picture, netizens shared their thoughts that the editor shouldn’t have used too much photoshop like this because it would make each member’s uniqueness disappear. Instead, they should respect the differences and physical characteristics of each girl.
So, who is the one to be blamed for such overly photoshopped images? The public standard about beauty, the editors, or the Kpop idols themselves? Comment down below to share your thoughts with us.
