On January 11 local time, American music data tracking firm Luminate (formerly MRC Data), which supplies the data for the Billboard charts, released its year-end list of the best-selling CDs of 2022.
On the list ranking CD sales only (not including digital download albums or any other format), K-pop artists claimed an impressive seven spots out of the top 10. The six K-pop artists who made the 2022 list were BTS, TXT, Stray Kids, TWICE, ENHYPEN, and NCT 127.
BTS’s “Proof” was the United States’ No. 1 best-selling CD album by a group or male artist in 2022—and the No. 2 best-selling CD overall, after Taylor Swift’s “Midnights”—with 413,000 copies sold.
Meanwhile, TXT’s “minisode 2: Thursday’s Child” was the No. 3 best-selling CD of the year with 227,000 copies sold in the United States.
Notably, Stray Kids was the only artist to make the top 10 twice: their mini album “ODDINARY” ranked No. 5 with 204,000 CDs sold, while “MAXIDENT” followed close behind at No. 7 with 177,000 CDs sold.
TWICE, the only girl group to make the list, came in at No. 6 with their mini album “BETWEEN 1&2,” which sold 199,000 CDs.
ENHYPEN’s “MANIFESTO : DAY 1” made the list at No. 8 with 173,000 CDs sold, while NCT 127’s “2 Baddies” rounded out the top 10 with 148,000 CDs sold in the United States last year.
