BTS V Becomes the Most Followed Male K-Pop Idol on Instagram
Following the success of BTS' four-night concert "Permission to Dance On Stage" in Los Angeles and concluding their official activities in the United States, the seven BTS members surprised fans on December 6 when they launched their very own individual Instagram accounts, which were all verified by Instagram itself.
Just a few hours after the members launched their own Instagram account, they quickly went on to surpass several million followers from fans all over the world.
In particular, V went on to break two Guinness World Records with his Instagram, becoming the artist who broke the record for the fastest account to reach one million and 10 million Instagram followers.
The Guinness World Records stated that V had hit the one million mark just 43 minutes after making his account public, and surpassing the previous record set by NCT member Taeil (@mo.on_air) of one hour and 43 minutes to reach one million followers back in July of this year.
As for 10 million followers, it only took the "Butter" singer a total of four hours and 52 minutes to hit the milestone on the platform.
After easily breaking two Guinness World Records, V currently has more than 26.8 million followers on Instagram as of this writing on December 20 KST.
With that, V has become the most followed male K-Pop idol on the platform, surpassing GOT7 member Jackson's follower count of 26.5 million Instagram followers.
On a day-to-day basis, V's Instagram averages around more than 200,000 new followers. So it is likely that V's follower count will hit 27 million soon!
This also makes V the most followed BTS member on the platform, with fellow member Jungkook coming in as the second most followed in BTS at 25.3 million.
For the other members' follower count, Jimin is at 24.4 million; Jin at 23.4 million; RM and J-Hope at 23.1 million; and Suga at 23 million followers.
BTS V Causes Frenzy Over Latest Instagram Stories Post
As BTS returned to South Korea one-by-one from the United States, the members had to undergo a 10-day quarantine period following the new COVID-19 quarantine guidelines upon entering the country.
Since then, the members had used this time to get acquainted with Instagram and shared numerous pictures and Stories on their accounts daily.
In particular, in the early hours of December 19, V decided to cause havoc on Instagram by updating his Instagram Stories with a now-deleted 15-second clip of him showing off his growing facial hair while being shirtless.
Shortly after his post, fans on Twitter expressed their shock yet happiness, and quickly began trending at No. 1 worldwide with numerous keywords, such as "KIM TAEHYUNG," "I'M SCREAMING," "EXCUSE ME SIR," "WTF TAEHYUNG," "HE'S SO," "SHIRTLESS," and many more.
He later took to the global fan community platform, Weverse, to inform fans that he would be returning to a clean-shaven look after achieving his goal of growing out his facial hair during quarantine.
