BTS Butter Achieves a Certified Double Platinum from the Recording Industry Association of America

On September 23 local time, the Recording Industry Association of America (hereafter referred to as the RIAA) announced that BTS' hit summer track Butter has achieved a total of three new certifications all at once, such as gold, platinum, and double platinum certifications.

Based on the RIAA's criteria for certification, a song achieves a certified gold after it shifts 500,000 equivalent units, one million equivalent units for platinum, and two million equivalent units to achieve double platinum.

With that, BTS Butter has shifted more than two million equivalent units in the United States, between its streaming equivalents and pure sales.

This marks also marks the second time BTS achieved a double platinum certification in the United States, with the group's first full-English single Dynamite, having achieved the certification back in March of this year.

Besides BTS Dynamite and Butter, the seven-member group has numerous other singles that were given a certification by the RIAA.

BTS songs MIC Drop, IDOL, and Boy With Luv has so far been certified platinum, while Fake Love and DNA has achieved gold certifications.

BTS Butter is easily one of the septet's most successful singles, with the song debuting at No 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 and remaining at the top for seven consecutive weeks and a total of 10 non-consecutive weeks.

BTS is currently one of the only three acts from South Korea to achieve a double platinum certification from the RIAA, following Pinkfong's viral song Baby Shark, which achieved a certified diamond for shifting 11 million equivalent units in the United States, while PSY's hit song, Gangnam Style, is five-times platinum.

In addition to the RIAA, BTS Butter also became the fastest song in the history of the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) to achieve a platinum certification in the country. While Dynamite became BTS' first single to become platinum in the United Kingdom.

Congratulations to BTS!

Even celebrities can't get enough of BTS Butter!

On September 23 local time, American singer Lizzo recently appeared on BBC Radio 1's "Live Lounge," a popular radio segment in the United Kingdom that features artists performing a cover of a song, as well as theirs.

For her appearance, Lizzo decided to perform her version of BTS Butter, also showing off her very own "VMIN" (name for V and Jimin) shirt that proves just how much of a fan she is!

"I'm really a sucker for people who make positive music, you know. I have dedicated my artistry to making positive music, and BTS does just that. The world has fallen in love with them because they are so sweet and pure, and they're just good-hearted. And I wanted to bring more positivity into the world via their song. It's a great song, too. It's so funky, and I hope we do it justice," said Lizzo on why she chose to sing a BTS song.

Following her performance, Lizzo shared a few clips from her performance on her Twitter, adding the captions "Hope I made V & jungkook proud w this lil run I sang" and "Hope I made suga & RM proud w/ this rap I did."
