On Dec. 16, Wednesday, K-Pop Radar of Space Oddity released their "2020 Year-end Rankings," a list based on the K-pop data that were gathered from various social media accounts such as YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
K-Pop Radar is a fandom data analyzer that allows K-Pop fans to observe the size and change of K-Pop artists' fandom through social media platforms, which is a big indicator of the popularity of an artist.
The site collects the current status of artists' SNS followers every day and tallies the trend of real-time music video views released this year.
The collection of K-Pop data were gathered starting January 1 to November 30, and this is also the basis of how the artists entered the rankings.
There are numerous categories released by K-pop Radar, but BLACKPINK Lisa, Jennie, Jisoo, BTS, NCT Jaehyun, MAMAMOO Hwasa, and more dominated the ranking for SNS stars.
Top 3 Most Followed K-Pop Idols and Groups on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook
In these rankings, the artists with the most followers increased dramatically in 2020 were able to enter their respective categories.
In particular, for this year, BLACKPINK's Lisa, Jennie, and Jisoo swept off the top 3 for "Most Followed Idol This 2020 on Instagram."
Also for this year, Lisa gained an additional 14.87 million followers, making her the first place. The main dancer of BLACKPINK was followed by their main rapper Jennie at No. 2, with approximately 12.67 million followers added to her fans and supporters.
BLACKPINK's main visual Jisoo also entered the list with 12.17 million followers, proving her global beauty and top-notch allure.
As for the rankings of "Most Followed Artists on Twitter," BTS (7.9 million followers), TXT (3.4 million followers) and EXO (2.95 million followers) are the boy groups that ruled this year on the said platform.
Also, Facebook stans prove their power as BLACKPINK, IU, and BTS ranked first, second and third places, respectively, for "Most Followed Artists on Facebook this 2020."
NCT Jaehyun and MAMAMOO Hwasa Reign as 2020 "Hot Instagramer"
Along with the three SNS categories, the results also draw attention to the "2020 Hot Instagramer category," which will be presented to artists with the largest number of followers by opening personal Instagram this year.
For the male artist category, NCT Jaehyun, who achieved 1 million followers in a day after opening Instagram in March, topped the list with about 5.31 million followers.
Jaehyun's Instagram has only 30 posts uploaded, but it has more than 5 million followers, proving its popularity.
The female artist category was honored by Hwasa MAMAMOO, who is enjoying her best days until the "Refund Expedition" along with her successful solo activities.
Hwasa, who opened Instagram for the first time in six years after her debut, saw an increase of about 4.1 million followers in the eight months since its opening.
K-Pop Radar then introduced the two teams that have grown most brilliantly in the Twitter follower category over the past year.
Stray Kids has seen a steep rise in Twitter followers over the past year, more than 2.3 times higher than before, and ITZY also saw its number of followers soar from 930,000 last year to 2.31 million recently, recording remarkable growth in 2020.
In a related development, K-Pop Radar predicted, "Stray Kids and ITZY, who showed active activities this year, showed the highest increase in followers among rookie male and female groups. We are looking forward to their activities in 2021 because K-pop fandom is concentrated and popular on Twitter."
