Regarding the news, AKMU Lee Chan Hyuk expressed his infinite trust in YG, "Honestly, it is hard to find a company that helps their singers better than YG. They are a company that has supported us firmly in the direction we want to move forward, without any tiny friction or disagreement for 7 years, and led us well."
In addition, AKMU Lee Suhyun said, "We have never thought about leaving YG, except for when we're retiring."
YG shared, "AKMU are still young, but they are thoughtful and have a very adult side. It is true that all YG executives and employees were deeply moved by the news of AKMU's long-term contract renewal. As we have confirmed each other's trust, YG will provide more support for AKMU in the future, and we will do our best to help them grow."
AKMU is a top-notch brother and sister duo who are recognized for their musical artistry as well as popularity in South Korea. AKMU, who received attention under the name of Akdong Musician after their appearance in SBS 'K-Pop Star' Season 2 in 2012, made their official debut under YG in 2014.
Since then, they have established themselves as the strongest music source in South Korea, displaying their innate writing and composing skills with the full trust and support of YG. Since they have produced numerous hit songs over the past years, their actions have drawn great attention as they always emerged as a hot topic in the entertainment industry.
YG and AKMU's contract renewal is particularly noticeable because singers often disband or move to other agencies after their 7-year contract period, and even if they continue to renew their contracts with the agency, it is usually a two-year contract to reduce the burden. It is impossible to sign another 5-year contract without infinite trust in each other.
Meanwhile, YG Entertainment has also renewed their contract with Kang Dong Won, drawing keen attention as they are havign good news one after another. YG has many top artists, including Kang Dong Won, AKMU, BIGBANG, BLACKPINK, Sechs Kies, WINNER, iKON, TREASURE, Choi Ji Woo, Jang Hyun Sung, Yoo In Na, Jung Hye Young, Lee Sung Yong, Lee Soo Hyuk, Kyung Jin, Son Ho Jun, and Gal So Won.
