Currently, K-Pop boy groups are very popular globally, but they are not the ones who started the boy band / boy group trend in the history of music. Many people believe that this trend started a long time ago, especially in the 1950s, when young men formed groups and attracted the attention of the audience, especially young girls. Although groups like The Jackson 5 or The Osmonds did not call themselves boy bands or boy groups at the time, they certainly had the same success formula like what popular groups today are pursuing.
Looking back on the long-term development of the world's boy groups, the Rolling Stone magazine recently published a list of '75 Greatest Boy Band Songs of All Time'. Many legendary male groups of the world music industry such as The Monkees, New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys, One Direction… are on the list. K-Pop is also honored to have 6 representatives and 9 songs chosen in the Rolling Stone's rankings. In particular, BTS has 4 songs featured on this list.
56. 'Fake Love' - BTS (2018)
55. 'The Chaser' - INFINITE (2012)
43. 'Nan Arayo (I Know)' - Seo Taiji and Boys (1992)
39. 'Mirotic' - TVXQ (2008)
34. 'Euphoria' - BTS (2018)
31. 'Fantastic Baby' - Big Bang (2012)
19. 'Spring Day' - BTS (2017)
14. 'Sherlock' - SHINee (2012)
5. 'Moon' - BTS (2020)
Congratulations to all the boygroups whose songs are honored by Rolling Stone!
