We all know that being number one on the charts is a huge achievement. It’s even better to hold that spot on all the major Korean music charts like Melon, Genie, Bugs, etc… If an artist can achieve this then they have what’s called a “perfect all-kill”, which is sometimes abbreviated to "PAK."
Having 1 all-kill means the song was at the top of all charts for 1 hour. Getting even one all-kill is not easy, but here are 5 songs that were able to not just get an all-kill but over 100 of them!
1. BTS’ 'Dynamite'
It comes as no surprise that BTS made it to the list with their hugely popular first all English release 'Dynamite.' BTS actually broke the record for most hours spent at #1 with over 600 hours recorded!
Kings of breaking records coming through!
2. IU’s 'Celebrity'IU ,
IU has been in the K-Pop scene for over 10 years now and continues to dominate the charts with each new release. One of her newest singles 'Celebrity' debuted at number one on the Gaon Digital Chart, and was her 25th release to achieve that rank. 'Celebrity' remained at the top for over 300 hours, reminding everyone of IU’s impact as one of Korea's best female soloists.
3. Zico’s 'Any Song'
Anyone who was into K-Pop in 2020 will undoubtedly know Zico’s widely popular release 'Any Song.' It was the first song of 2020 to receive an all-kill. Many people think the song's success was due to the viral dance trend it created. Zico enlisted the help of many Korean celebrities to make the dance a trend and it definitely worked
'Any Song' was able to beat out the previous record-holder, iKON's 'Love Scenario', and become the song with the most PAK. It was able to maintain the number one spot for over 300 hours, and many were consecutive! Although it was eventually beaten out in the same year by BTS' 'Dynamite' (ended up with over 600 as previously stated).
4. Brave Girls' 'Rollin'
Brave Girls have been around since 2011, and have had many member rotations because of their minimal success. Their popularity was low with the public, but the army was somewhere they could go and receive a warm welcome. In early 2021, a Korean fan posted a compilation of performances of their newest song 'Rollin' which skyrocketed their popularity.
Thanks to this fan Brave Girls were able to do something they had never imagined before, they got an all-kill! However, they didn't get just 1 all-kill, they got over 100! Brave Girls are also set to have a summer comeback soon so be sure to keep an eye out for it!
5. iKON's 'Love Scenario'
iKON have had many popular songs since their debut in 2015, but none as popular as 'Love Scenario.' When it was first released it had immense popularity, especially with younger listeners because of its catchy rhythm. However, it was actually banned in some elementary schools in Korea because the children sang it too much. They claimed it had "inappropriate lyrics" and it "showed signs of addiction to catchy tunes." Although thanks to this popularity 'Love Scenario' was able to claim over 200 hours at the number one spot! Even though it was released back in 2018, 'Love Scenario' remains an iconic K-Pop song that many continue to enjoy.
Which one of these songs is your favorite? What song do you wish could be on this list?
