The author of “True Beauty” webtoon Yaongyi expressed her excitement for the upcoming tvN drama adaptation!

Based on the hit webtoon, the “True Beauty” drama is a romantic comedy about Lim Ju Gyeong (Moon Ga Young), who zealously uses makeup to hide her bare face and against her insecurities about her looks. After she meets Lee Su Ho (ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo), a popular student in school but he has his own emotional wounds, they share each other’s secrets and learn to heal through love. Hwang In Yeob co-stars as Han Seo Jun, an untamable rebel with a surprisingly warm heart. The drama will be helmed by director Kim Sang Hyub, who worked on “Extraordinary You.”
A recent interview with the author showed that she was deeply emotional to have her webtoon adapted into a drama. Author Yaongyi shared, “The webtoon ‘True Beauty’ is a story of how one person, who looks very different before and after makeup, faces up to many situations and matures through that experience.” She explained, “Therefore, I hope that the drama brings to life the growth process of the webtoon’s main character Ju Gyeong.”
The author also shared her satisfaction with the cast of the film. She shared, “The actor I’m most anticipating is, of course, the actor of the main character, Ju Gyeong, who I pour the most amount of affection into.” She added, “I was really happy to hear that actress Moon Ga Young had been cast, and I’m looking forward to seeing how she’ll portray Ju Gyeong.”
When asked about what she focuses most on while producing the webtoon, author Yaongyi replied, “Due to the nature of webtoons, while the content is important, the visual aspects are also important, so I pay the most attention to the drawing quality.” She added, “I think it’s also important to naturally incorporate trendy fashion and beauty trends into the work, so I try to be sensitive to the current trends.”

In newly released stills, Lim Ju Gyeong and Lee Su Ho are at a comic book store. Her face is non-makeup and splotchy with pimples, and she wears comfortable, baggy clothes that are in contrast to what she wears when she transforms into a goddess with thick make-up.
Lee Su Ho leans forward and stares at her with suspicious eyes. Her lips are firmly pressed together as if she is holding a secret, which makes her seem fishier than ever. Suddenly, Lee Su Ho points at her, and Lim Ju Gyeong clamps her hands over her mouth with enlarged eyes. Viewers are curious to find out what he said that shocked her so much.
“True Beauty” premieres on December 9 at 10:30 p.m.
