MONSTA X’s Kihyun talks about his contribution to the OST of KBS’s “Meow the Secret Boy”!
On April 9, the fantasy rom-com drama starring INFINITE’s Kim Myung Soo and Shin Ye Eun released the latest addition to its soundtrack, Kihyun’s new song “Again Spring.” The emotional ballad juxtaposes the sweeping sounds of an orchestra with a gentle, piano-backed melody, evoking the wistful longing experienced by the drama’s protagonists.
Kihyun remarked, “In contrast to its sweet title, ‘Again Spring’ is a song that conveys the emotions of heartache and sorrow. If you were to express heartache through music, I think it would sound something like this song—that’s how sad the song is. But I think it’s also beautiful.”
Explaining what he had hoped to achieve through the song, Kihyun commented, “As a member of MONSTA X, I’ve shown off powerful singing that matched our intense and powerful songs. But I wanted to show a different side of Kihyun through ‘Again Spring,’ by singing a ballad in a sorrowful tone and being able to move others deeply.”
Kihyun added that he had spent a lot of time figuring out how to express the drama’s characters—particularly Kim Myung Soo’s character Hong Jo—through his singing.
“I worked hard to try and express the feelings of a man who is unable to let go of someone who, like the warmth of spring, has melted his wintry self,” he said. “I especially spent a lot of time worrying about how to breathe and convey emotions in a way that expressed a man who transforms into a cat and that man’s pitiful love. I think that if you hear ‘Again Spring’ as it plays in the drama, you’ll be able to feel the heartache of the main characters.”
Kihyun has lent his voice to numerous drama OSTs in the past, and he shared, “I have a lot of interest in OSTs, so I’ve been contributing to them consistently. For this drama, a great opportunity came my way, and I decided to participate without hesitation.”
“Fans also really want me to sing for OSTs,” he added. “As this was my first time contributing to an OST in about two years, I had a lot of fun while working on it and tried hard to sing the song well.”
Finally, Kihyun concluded by remarking, “As ‘Again Spring’ is a song that truly captures the feelings of love and heartache, I hope that you will listen to it and relate to it a lot.”
