Based on a webtoon of the same name, this upcoming drama tells the story of average high school student Park Chan Hong (played by Lee Shin Young), who starts a “contractual friendship” with the school’s legendary fighter Heo Don Hyuk (played by Shin Seung Ho) after writing a poem.

On March 30, KBS 2TV upped excitement for the drama with a new preview.

In the clip, Park Chan Hong talks about his goal of being average while riding his bike to school. He can’t stop staring at Jeil High School’s No. 1 beauty queen Uhm Se Yoon (played by Kim So Hye) and gets paired up with her for an art contest.

Heo Don Hyuk then enters Jeil High School after going to juvenile detention for fighting at his previous school. He stuns the student body with his intimidating stature, and no one dares to stand in his way as he walks down the hallway. Park Chan Hong unexpectedly wins the attention of Uhm Se Yoon and Heo Don Hyuk after writing a poem, and the three students find themselves intertwined in a curious friendship.

More questions arise when Youth Leadership Committee Chairman Jo Pyeong Seob (played by Jang Hye Jin) says, “The bait has been bitten” to Uhm Se Yoon and Choi Mi Ra (played by Min Dohee).

The clip concludes on a cliffhanger as a girl falls onto the ground in a pool of blood. Grabbing Park Chan Hong by the neck, Heo Don Hyuk asks, “Did you kill Shin Seo Jung?” Park Chan Hong states in a voiceover, “I shouldn’t have written that stupid poem” as he falls from the school roof.

A source from the drama said, “Unlike other teen dramas, we plan to tell a story of mystery with suspense and excitement. We will come to viewers with a new kind of entertainment by combining the emotions of a poem and a mystery.”

“How to Buy a Friend” premieres on April 6 at 10 p.m. KST.
