Following the backlash BLACKPINK’s “Lovesick Girls” music video received due to member Jennie’s scene clad in a nurse’s uniform, YG Entertainment has announced that they will be deleting the scene and replacing the music video.

Their statement reads:

“Hello. This is YG Entertainment.

We have decided to edit out all the scenes that contain the nurse uniform in BLACKPINK’s “Lovesick Girls” music video. We will be replacing the video as soon as possible.ADVERTISING

While we have been working on this music video for a long time, we had not expected this issue to be raised because the scene in question had no specific intention to them. We feel greatly responsible for this and will consider this as a learning opportunity.

We want to apologize to the nurses who felt discomfort, and we once again wish to express our respect to all healthcare workers who are working hard to protect the health of the citizens.

Thank you.”

Previously, the Health and Medical Worker’s Union of Korea had raised their concerns over the said scene in BLACKPINK’s “Lovesick Girls” music video. They criticized the music video’s representation of nurses, noting that the cap, tights, short skirt, and high heels are far from an actual nurses’ uniform and that the depiction seen in the video is used for sexual appeal.

They also noted that there are more women than men who work as nurses, making them the victim of sexual objectification, and with such a depiction of nurses out in the media, they are also the victim of belittlement despite their expertise.

Following the criticism, YG Entertainment made a statement in which they clarified that the nurses’ uniform was added to reflect the lyrics, “No doctor can help when I’m lovesick.” They also clarified that there were no ill intentions meant with the scene and that they were deliberating editing the scene out.
